"Green" is Good for Everyone

We are proud to announce that we have joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)- working together to advance structures that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work.

Lately it seems you can’t watch television, or read a newspaper without seeing a green message. But while the politically correct has finally hit the mainstream, P&H Construction Associates has been a believer in Green Construction for many years. Why? Because the benefits are far reaching.

Think about it. According to the U.S. Green Building Council in the United States alone, buildings account for:

•    70% of electricity consumption
•    39% of energy use
•    39% of all carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
•    40% of raw materials use
•    30% of waste output (136 million tons annually)
•    12% of potable water consumption

Imagine the cost reductions to building owners in Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, New Canaan, Rowayton, Wilton, and Weston. Imagine the reduced burden on the infrastructures in Fairfield, Westport, Southport, Ridgefield, Redding, Danbury, Greenwich, Old Greenwich, Riverside, Cos Cob, and Danbury. Less taxes, too. You see; it’s more than just reducing the impact on the environment. When you take a holistic approach everyone benefits. We believe we have a responsibility to our clients and communities like New Haven, Milford, Bridgeport, Bethel, and Trumbull to promote green building.

Imagine the cost savings by going green!

If your perception is that green building is too expensive, here’s a different perception to consider:

•   You could reduce your operating expenses by 8-9%
•   You could increase you building’s value by 7.5%
•   You could improve your return on investment by 6.6%
•   You could increase occupancy rates by 3.5%
•   You could increase rents by 3%

Actual results are just staggering. Adobe Systems in California was able to cut energy consumption by 37%, water consumption by 41%, and diverted 94% of their waste product. Think about the impact on their bottom line.

Here’s another real example:

Johnson Diversity in Wisconsin sliced 32% off their water bill, diverted 49% of the waste and pockets $90,000 in annual energy savings.

And one more:

Fossil Ridge High School in Colorado saved a whopping 59% on their energy bill while diverting 69% of their waste. Local taxpayers gotta love that one.

At a time when the cost of everything from energy to insurance is rising, it’s wise to seek ways to cut your expenses to the bone.

People are concerned …

When consumers were asked what motivates them to consider going green, these were their top four answers:

•   Concern about our children’s future (21%)
•   Concern about rising energy prices (19%)
•   Concern about dependence on foreign oil (16%)
•   Concern about global warming (14%)

We have solutions that’ll save you money, make the work environment safer and healthier for your building occupants, enhance your site’s aesthetics and reduce the impact on the environment.
